Abstract

Football is a scenario of cultural practices whose meaning lies solely in the phenomenon of sport, and these practices are crossed by a series of cultural, political, economic and social dimensions that determine the configuration of discourses that the fans take as their own through performative roles. This article explores the way in which these roles are embraced and maintained, as well as the narratives that drive this transmission in Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, which describes its protagonist's penchant for the Arsenal Football Club and the way in which football has permeated his personal ties.
