This article argument is that The Monterrey News by Hugo Valdés is a novel that privileges the reconstruction of Monterrey city. The analysis is made through the following axis: “foundational myth”, “city without style”, and “subversive spaces”. The objective is to unravel the several representations of a northern city that has been constructed as an opposition to the capital of Mexico, but that also contains similarities as in the chaos of the modern city.
